About
David Niedermayer
The way of the Oud
David Niedermayer is a musician and composer from Germany. On his oud — the queen of oriental instruments — he creates makam melodies in the style of the old masters. While preserving tradition, he also incorporates new playing techniques. His music reflects influences from Arabic, Turkish, Greek, and Armenian traditions, blending them with his Western background into a ride on the flying carpet.
His makam compositions were released on the two albums New Pieces for Oud I + II. After earning his music diploma in 2011, he received an award from the Sparkassenstiftung in 2013 and was granted scholarships by the City of Bremen and the German Orchestra Association. This was followed by masterclasses with Murat Aydemir, Yurdal Tokcan, Ross Daly and Necati Çelik.
In 2025, he worked as a teacher of Turkish oud at the “International Music Village Izmir.” He lives in Bremen, where he teaches makam music.
